I was pleasantly surprised!
When I first flipped through this book - it looked pretty simplistic - especially for an Art Journaling book.
After all - most art journaling books are filled with colourful, creative examples - not this book.
So I was surprised when I started to read through the prompts - the further I got - the more inspired I got. I wanted to attack my supplies and get journaling right away.
My enthusiasm for art journaling was renewed once again!
The ideas and techniques described are fun and easy.
I am eager to try them out and see my completed pages.
It isn't a very extensive book (only 33 pages in total)... just enough to get started and inspired.

A good book with a few good ideas but it's really for a beginner.

Well, this sounded like a good idea when I read the descriptions on here. Yes, there are 100+ ideas in the book but most of them are the most basic and simple ideas for art journalling. I'm by no means an experienced art journaler but this book is a little too basic for me. I thought there would be more instruction on how to use some products but maybe I was too hopeful. For a new art journaler who doesn't have much creativity or someone who needs help with ideas, this would be a decent purchase.

This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for to help me grasp how to begin art journaling personally and how I might incorporate the art with my professional work. I like the step-by-step approach, and how it goes from simple to more complex. I also love the prompts and ideas the author gives. It is a tiny book, but it is packed with just right information. I also appreciate that the author chose not to give examples in the book so the artwork created by readers can be unique and inspired rather than copied. I highly recommend this book for all who are interested in art journaling but are having a hard time figuring out where/how to start.

Paying acute attention to the linguistic nuances of translation, Apparitions - of Derrida's Other assesses its central focus point by meticulous point. Apparitions - of Derrida's Other is an excellent analysis for advanced philosophy shelves, or any collection involving Derrida's works an ideas. A good addition to any photographer's book collection

A somewhat dated but still useful guide to photography of a wide variety of subjects in a wide variety of conditions. Absolute beginners may find it a little overwhelming, but perseverance will definitely pay off. I think the best way to read the book it to use the author's photography suggestions as examples: Don't try to remember everything he said, try to understand why he said it. It's this learn-by-example approach that is the real strength of the book.

I gave it to my 8 year-old niece. She likes it. It can be a little difficult to read for lack of sufficient white space. This is not a damnation of it though; the lack of white space results from so much information being contained. Adequate white space would require 1,000 pages or more. The photographs were taken with a point-and-shoot camera; but even though it isn't in the title, that is one point of the book - showing most people how to shoot most photographs in most situations they will encounter with equipment that most people will have.

Could you run a house at age twelve? Aislinn has recently finished the seventh grade and is home for the summer taking care of her four younger siblings while her parents work full time jobs. Capable of caring for her young siblings and running the house, Aislinn is very mature. She understands that her father is an alcoholic. When drunk, he becomes abusive to her, the younger children, and her mother who struggles to defend them. As a result of her father's drinking, the family lives with her father's mother and her father issues unreasonable commands. Aislinn is not allowed to leave the yard, talk to boys, or go to other people's houses.

Recently, Aislinn's father has been drinking more and more. Bills are beginning to go unpaid and he is becoming more and more abusive. In an attempt to get help for her family, Aislinn creates Dreamsleeves. By writing her wishes on a sticky note and wearing them on her shirt sleeves, people cannot ignore her hopes.

Aislinn is a great character who could be described using all the adjectives of a noble heroine. She protects her siblings, confronts her fears, and inspires others. Paratore conveys all Aislinn's worries and qualms in such a way that Aislinn seems to become real. The reader wants to meet the brave girl whose thoughts they read. This author does an excellent job telling the reader Aislinn's story. Dreamsleeves seems appropriate for any female reader older than age twelve. Aislinn motivates her readers to achieve their dreams. Dreamsleeves receives five stars; it is a great book everyone should read.

A read to be Cherished

Coleen Paratore's, DreamSleeves, is a heartfelt expedition into the life of a dreamer and one of the few books that invokes the reaities of having a dream envisoned and then fufilled, through insurmountable hardships and struggles. This book offers a refreshing perspective for the dreamers, the believers, and the envisoners of passions. A must read!

A Wonderful Book... for all ages

I picked up this book and simply could not put it down. In spite of it falling into the YA genre, I- very much an adult myself- found it equally inspiring, moving, and intriguing for people of all ages. Coleen has done it again, this time with a particularly intimate, honest and vulnerable look at what so many young girls go through as they struggle through childhood to become who they really are. To say nothing of the brilliant idea that inspired the title... this book has literally changed the way that I will approach imagining and sharing the dreams that I hold most dear.
