A great book on my darker side.

I liked this book because it focused solely on Gemini. Most books are compiled of the entire zodiac, which then each sign gets only a handful of pages. I enjoyed this book because I've always wanted to understand more about my sign, especially the darker side. There were many times I found myself saying "I actually do this!"
The author writes in a sarcastic tone that may or may not grate your nerves, but I'm assuming it's for Dark Gemini.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has a curiosity to know more than just the lighter side of their sign.
I have this book four stars instead of five because the website links in the reference section were outdated.

Gr 8 Up-Erin and her best friends, Linny and Mei, live in San Francisco's Chinatown and are seniors at an elite public high school. Mei and Linny are Chinese, Erin is not. Born in China, she has grown up immersed in the culture and considers herself "Chinese on the inside." Linny is the glue that holds their friendship together, as tensions still exist between Erin and Mei from an incident years earlier. Linny and Erin plan to attend UC Berkeley, but when Erin is accepted at Harvard, she has to weigh what she wants versus what she thinks others want for her. Mei, also accepted at Harvard, would rather attend Stanford in order to be near her secret boyfriend, Darren, but her mother will have nothing but "the number one university." Cute contemporary

Erin attends the prestigious Lowell High School, along with her best friends Mei and Linny. In just a few days they'll know which colleges they got in to, but the girls aren't sure where they want to go. Then Mei writes to advice blogger Miss Fortune Cookie and decides to follow her advice. But Erin is secretly Miss Fortune Cookie and not certain she gave her friend the best counsel.

I really enjoyed MISS FORTUNE COOKIE. Erin is a terrific main character. She jumps to conclusions, interferes in other people's business, and struggles with her own life dilemmas just as much as the people who write to her. At the same time, she's very loyal to her friends and family and almost everyone her age struggles with knowing themselves. And I loved the equations she came up with to describe the situations she finds herself in.

The cultural aspect of MISS FORTUNE COOKIE adds a lot of interest to what could be a standard tale of senior year angst and hijinks. Erin is white but was born in China and lived there for several years, before being raised in San Francisco's Chinatown. She struggles with reconciling her culture to what people expect of her based on her appearance. She also struggles with believing that her friends truly accept her as she is. There's some wonderful plot involving just how untrustworthy memory can be.

Lauren Bjorkman folds a bit of nonfiction in to the mix, as a real-life counter protest of the vile Westboro Baptist Church at Lowell happens during the course of the novel. Obviously, in MISS FORTUNE COOKIE it is fictionalized since the main characters are heavily involved. I thought it was an interesting touch, but I'm not sure it meshed well with the themes of MISS FORTUNE COOKIE. I can't say that I entirely mind a book stalling the story a little to say that hate is bad and God loves everyone, however. It's a point that needs to be made repeatedly.

MISS FORTUNE COOKIE will appeal to contemporary fans who like stories of female friendship with a touch of romance. All three of the girls have a love interest, and their romantic storylines ended up more realistic than I first expected. There's nothing particularly memorable about MISS FORTUNE COOKIE, but it does have an intriguing setting and charm.

A quick, easy, okay read.

Oh man, this book didn't do it for me and that makes me sad because I really wanted to like it. I had two main issues with this book - first, I found Erin's relationships with her friends confusing. I don't understand why they couldn't have just been a trio of friends and why there was all this grudge-holding from fourth grade. But despite their strange friendship, I did like Erin's character. She only wanted to do what was right for her friends and for her blog followers. Most of the time I found her advice pretty sound.

The second issue I had with Miss Fortune Cookie was the protest part of the plot. Erin and her friends seemed to put a lot of thought in their protest and I admire their values (and for that I would recommend this book to high schoolers) but I felt like not enough time was spend with the protest, particularly after they arrived and what might have happened after. The protest ended and that was pretty much it for that plot line. It was almost like an afterthought and I think if more time had been spent on it, some great life lessons could have been learned.

There is a side of romance in this novel, which was a little compelling. It was pretty adorable the way Erin met her love interest and I rooted for them. On another positive note, there were several random and diverse tertiary characters who were pretty awesome.

Two stars. I didn't hate Miss Fortune Cookie and it held my attention, but after all was said and done (and read) it was only okay. This might be a great read for younger YA fans, though I hesitate to say middle grade because of all the mentions of sex.

Fun Story About Friendship and Decisions

This was a fun contemporary story told through the eyes of a high school senior at an elite public school. It is the story of friendship and cultural differences and understandings and misunderstandings.

Erin and Mei were friends from early childhood who went a bit astray from each other in eighth grade. Now they are reunited along with a new friend Linny in high school. While Erin was born in China and has lived in San Francisco's Chinatown since she was very small, she is actually Irish but says she has a Chinese heart. Mei and Linny are Chinese. And Erin has a secret. She writes an online advice column called Miss Fortune Cookie where she gives advice - some taken from actual fortune cookies - to those who write in.

Now that the kids are seniors in high school the problems are getting bigger. Mei's mother has worked very hard to provide for her daughter's education. Mei has been accepted to Harvard but her secret boyfriend has been accepted to Stanford. Mei is a dutiful daughter but having to choose between her mother's dreams and her own heart is not an easy choice. Erin has also been accepted at Harvard but she doesn't want to disappoint Linny who thinks that they are going to be roommates at Berkeley.

Erin is uncertain about going so far away from home and leaving her mother alone. It has been just the two of them since her father died when she was a baby. Erin also feels that she is lacking in poise and confidence. Her two friends have boyfriends but talking to boys makes Erin tongue-tied. That is, until Weyland enters the picture. At first, she can talk to him because she thinks he is Linny's secret boyfriend. When Linny straightens her out, she and Weyland have become friends.

The story was filled with wonderful characters. I was especially fond of Erin who was eager to help her friends but was uncertain about the best way to do so. But Linny, who was a champion always fighting for social justice, and Mei, the dutiful daughter who learned to stand up for herself, were also well-rounded and interesting people.

Fans of contemporary fiction who want to take a look inside another culture and read about kids who are nerds and darn proud of it will enjoy this story immensely.

Hot & entertaining first in the series

What a great story I loved every second of it! Freaking great plot with lots of room for further stories which I can tell from the ending we're going to get. It draws you in and leaves you wanting so much more. I can't wait to find out what happens to Nichola and Jag. As well it leaves you wondering what will happens to a few other characters ~ Gus(panther), Brag(wolf), 1015(panther), and Felicia.

I love the idea of the world the author made with the tales of the Apple Creek Forest Preserve and its residents. One of the bigfoot bothers Ronin and their mate Chloe from The Beast's Desire Trilogy make a cameo appearance.

Of course there is tons a hot sex in this story as well. Its up to par with Emeralds other books. Loved how she made his cock. It had a few extras and I don't believe I've read a shifter story with it quite like that before.

Be warned there is shifted/half shifted sex and a cliffhanger ending

Emerald Ice does it again!!!

I loved the story and the plot was excellent! Ms. Ice seems to be moving more into Paranormal Romance and I am loving it!

I also loved how she tied in some of the characters from her "Beast Desire Series" into this one.

Of course the sex is hot because that is how Ms. Ice does it. Her sex scenes never disappoint and neither does she!

Wow! Let me just say that I could not put this book down! I became a huge fan of Emerald Ice after reading The Beast's Desire trilogy. We were introduced to some very naughty panther shifters in the final book, and I wanted MORE of them!! Well Ms. Ice delivered!

Jag is left in charge of the Panther shifters while the Elders are away on retreat. Trouble breaks out when a rouge panther gets spotted on camera, which puts all of the shifters of Apple Creek in danger of discovery. As Jag attempts to locate this rogue, he gets abducted by a group of evil scientist. These scientist have no morals and remind me of the scientists in Lora Leigh's Breeds series. Except this book was far more erotic and the Shifters actually shift to animal form.

This book was erotic and full of action. Never a dull moment. I am emotionally tied to the characters and can't wait to see how this series ends! If you enjoy hot Shifter and human girl action, then this is the series for you!!!
